Employees of Centier Bank are looking for classroom opportunities to teach students at local high schools the “do’s and don’ts” of credit to mark National Get Smart About Credit Day, a financial literacy outreach program sponsored by the American Bankers Association (ABA).
The program, now in its 11th year, is a national campaign of volunteer bankers who help young people develop responsible credit habits. The need to teach young adults about credit and other aspects of personal money management has never been greater. When it comes to credit, everyone seems to have questions – especially teenagers and young adults who are about to embark on financial independence. Credit lessons geared toward teens help provide a foundation for their future and lessons are presented by qualified, professional bankers.
“As a strong financial leader, it is our responsibility to help teach our youth about establishing good credit. In the near future, they will need loans for college or a new car, and we hope to raise awareness right from the start about the responsible use of credit by participating in the Get Smart About Credit program,” stated Mike Schrage, President & CEO of Centier Bank.
Although Centier bankers host classroom presentations year round, the ABA has marked October 17, 2013 as national “Get Smart About Credit Day.” Presentations will be made during the entire months of October and November in area high schools.
Classroom lessons focus on the ‘how-to’s’ of credit, including obtaining and managing credit, how to read a credit report effectively, why a good credit record is so important, how budgeting now can help you avoid credit problems later, and how to protect your financial information from identity theft.
