Declined PIN Transactions

October 10, 2013

Recent enhancements to our card processing system have identified a potential issue with PIN use on some clients debit cards. In these cases, clients may be declined for transactions requiring their PIN number either at ATMs or merchants.  Signature transactions at merchants will continue to work.

If you have been impacted by this issue, please stop by any Centier branch, where this issue will be corrected on site.  If you are unable to come to an office, please call our Client Service Center at (219) 756-2265 for assistance over the phone. Again, signature based or “credit” transactions (not requiring PIN) are unaffected.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. The issue was unforeseen, and we are doing all we can to provide a quick and positive resolution for anyone impacted by the situation.

Thank you.

Certainly would have been nice to know this before I tried to use my debit card. Now it’s Saturday afternoon, no banks are open and it’s a holiday weekend so I can’t get this resolved until Tuesday. Very unhappy with Centier right now.

I experienced the problem with the pin # not being recognized – thank goodness my husband’s card was working and we were able to withdraw $’s (as it was a Sat. afternoon and we were pressed for time). I think it would have been more customer friendly to have sent an alert via email as well. Making note of this on your website is fine, but I’m not on your site daily. Just a suggestion in the event something like this should happen again.

I experienced the same problem on Sunday afternoon and the clerk was insinuating that I did not know my pin number. It was embarrassing. It would have been nice to know that it was due to Centier Bank beforehand.
